U.S. Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF) selects Solar Stik®
Will deploy Hybrid Energy System for “Energy to the Edge” effort
February 10, 2012, St. Augustine, FL – Solar Stik®, Inc. was chosen out of several competing vendors by the U.S. Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF) to deploy the Solar Stik 3.0 kW Hybrid Energy System in an effort called “Energy to the Edge”. Solar Stik systems will equip limited deployed Army units with a variety of power generation systems for evaluation. Energy to the Edge is a subset of the REF’s Net Zero effort, which focuses on meeting energy and water requirements at locations that are hard to support logistically, while simultaneously reducing dependence on ground and aerial re-supply operations.
“The 3.0 kW Hybrid Energy System gives our armed forces a tactical edge by reducing the dependence on diesel fuel,” said Solar Stik CEO, Al Zaccor, COL (USA-Retired) “…thereby minimizing the necessity for ground and aerial resupply operations”. Solar Stik created the 3.0 kW Hybrid Energy System as part of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Project Manager for DoD Mobile Electric Power Systems (PM-MEP). Working together, Solar Stik and PM-MEP designed a system that would integrate renewable energy with the Army’s currently-fielded 3.0 kW Tactical Quiet Generator (TQG).
REF chose the Solar Stik System based on its immediate availability, proven performance in field conditions, and the results of DoD safety testing.
